Course Description

We would like to run the same course as last year, but this is dependent on conditions. Currently, with the rain that we had yesterday, we do not feel comfortable running skiers down the backside of Killer Hill. The uphill through the pines to the upper field is also lacking snow. If we get a few inches, the course will run starting in the field, out on Gilb’s return, heading up Killer and into the upper field loops before circling back down for the second loop.

If the snow does not cooperate and conditions are not safe, we may change the race start to the other side of the road where the conditions are much better. However, skiers would not have a warm-up area at this location and bus parking is always a challenge.

Cross your fingers for some snow and we will keep you updated on the selected course and conditions! A final decision will be made on Sunday and notification will be sent accordingly.

Bus Parking:

Busses will be able to park at the backside of the parking lot by the registration building/ski shed. When arriving head right towards the middle school and look for the small yellow buildings in the back.

Registration:

Registration will be inside the ski shed with the blue roof.

Warm Up Area:

Athletes are welcome to come into the ski shed where we have two small space heaters running. The middle school is also willing to allow athletes to use the MS cafeteria as a warm-up zone. Please remind your athletes that classes may be in session when they arrive and to be appropriate and respectful of fellow students.

Fees:

We are charging a fee of $3 for each skier to cover grooming expenses. Please make checks payable to: LUHS Nordic Ski Team

Concerns:

In the past few years, many coaches have been concerned about their athlete’s safety on Killer Hill. Please, ask your athletes to ski a warm-up loop and ski in control! The appropriate precautions will be in place for this area--we will have two volunteers on the hill! One volunteer will carry a radio, and they other will have a rake to avoid icy spots. Our athletic trainer and snowmobile will be on hand in case of emergency.
